  2. The team at Broquet (www.broquet.co) wanted to reach out to you about an issue that is near and dear to our hearts. Being in the men’s gift business, we get a little snapshot into the relationships that thousands of guys have with their girlfriends, wives, dads, moms, brothers, sisters, and best friends.

And, despite the recent popularization of the concept of “bromance”, we see a major inability for guys to express their love when it comes to platonic male friendships. In 2013 to date, 75% of the gift notes that we sent to men on behalf of women contained the word “love”. Less than 30% of the notes that men sent to men did. Maybe they’re embarrassed. Maybe they don’t know what to say. There is simply no outlet or social norm.

We’re trying to change that with a new holiday we’re calling Platonic Male Love Day (also known as Palentine’s Day). It falls a week from today on August 14th – exactly opposite Valentine’s Day on the Gregorian calendar. Really, 364 days of the year are basically Valentine’s Day when you consider the need for guys to buy women Carls Jr. and help take out the trash and stuff. We think it’s important for guys to have one just for themselves.

To help raise awareness for this important day, we just published two blog posts. The first is a Q&A on Palentine’s Day, answering important questions like “Was there a Saint Palentine?” The second is a celebration of bromance over the last 25 years, from George and Jerry in 1989 to Michael and Dwight in 2013.
